Since they obviously didn’t have anything else to talk about at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, Nokia simply re-announced the E63, that dumbed-down version of the E71 that was actually announced a few months ago. The E63 looks similar to the E71, but is a bit thicker, and available in red and blue color schemes. The NAM unit will feature UMTS (850/1900MHz) for AT&T’s 3G networks, but does not support HSDPA for super-high-speed data transfers. It does, however, have WiFi on board, and only a 2 megapixel camera.
The E63 does feature a few notable features that are firsts for Nokia, including being the first Eseries to include a standard 3.5mm audio port, and it’s also the first second S60 to feature a built-in flashlight (if you hold the spacebar down, it activates the camera flash as a flashlight.
The E63 NAM is expected to begin shipping within the next few weeks, priced at an incredibly reasonable $279, unlocked and unbranded. At that price, it’s reasonable to expect this unit to show up on a carrier as a freebie, or maybe $50.
We’re expecting our own E63 NAM here at Symbian-Guru.com any day now, and will have plenty of coverage for you to check out.
