Nokia’s definitely starting 2009 on a good foot. Despite Nokia having promised us magical lights at CES, they’ve updated the firmware for a handful of phones, a list which now includes the E66 and E51 business-centric smartphones. The Nokia E51 is a candybar cell phone from last year, updated to v300.34.56, whereas the E66 was also announced towards the middle of 2008, and is now up to v200.
We don’t have much of a changelog for either of these updates, aside from the fact that firmware updates typically enhance the phone’s stability, and fix various bugs that you might or might not have been experiencing. It’s usually a good idea to make sure your phone always has the latest firmware update, which you can do with Nokia’s Software Update application for Windows.
Please note, when updating the firmware of the E51 and the E66, any personal information stored on the phone *will be erased* as part of the update, so you’ll want to backup any critical info before applying the update. The phone has a built-in backup feature, which stores a backup on your memory card (which is safe, btw, when you update your firmware).
