Presenting the Nokia N79 Eco – shipping without a wall charger of any sort. That means the box can be smaller, which helps Nokia save quite a bit of resources. While one box won’t make a difference, when you add them up, they definitely make a difference.
The Nokia Conversations blog has mentioned shipping phones without chargers before as a way for Nokia to reduce its impact on the environment. I personally have 7 Nokia chargers in the house currently – 2 in my gadget bag, 2 in my office, one plugged in the livingroom, and 2 in the bedroom (one for me, one for Mrs. Guru). If you’re like me, Nokia wants to see if you’re down to save the environment by offering this cool phone.
The N79 Eco comes in that hot Petrol Black color scheme we spotted earlier, so you’ll also look cool while saving the environment! It’s available for preorder through the Nokia.co.uk website (sorry, looks like our hopes of a Petrol Black N79 NAM have been dashed!), and comes with a free N-Gage game. It’s priced at GBP319, and for every unit sold, Nokia will donate GBP4 to the WWF, which Nokia works closely with. You can also take this survey to get a discount code for other accessories.
What do you think about getting phones without a wall-charger? Do you agree that it’s probably just as good, since most of us have chargers laying around anyways?
