A new firmware for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has found its way onto NSU, v20.0.012, bringing something I requested from the beginning – native geotagging of your photos. This new firmware re-enables the feature that allows the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic to save location information from the phone’s GPS receiver to your photos, so that you can browse them by location on Flickr or Share on Ovi. Other changes such as bug fixes and the usual stability enhancements are also on board, though unfortunately we still do not yet have an onscreen S60 menu button.
You can get this new firmware through Nokia’s Software Update application, which is for Windows computers, and is available here.
Update: this update also adds the option to choose which plugins are shown on the Active Standby home screen. Unfortunately, there are no additional plugins, so it’s still rather useless. I’ll be keeping Handy Shell on mine.
