As the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Fransisco rolled out yesterday, it was natural to see some Nokia and N-Gage related news starting to hit the surface. Two N-Gage announcements were made, one through the Official N-Gage blog and one through GDC.
Motion Control on N-Gage: Bounce first
The official N-Gage blog brought the news that Bounce Boing Voyage will be the first N-Gage game to support motion control. This means that if you have a device with an accelerometer, you will be able to play Bounce by simply titlting your device to steer the ball left or right, and lifting the device to make a jump. It’s a very fun way of playing games, and Bounce is the perfect example for that as it doesn’t require complicated keystrokes to work. The new version of Bounce should be available in “spring 2009″, and users who have already bought the game will be able to upgrade for free. Also worth noting is that you can still play the game with the usual d-pad controls if you prefer clicking keys instead of moving your phone. Giving users the choice gets an applaud from us here at Symbian-Guru.
Reset Generation to be available on Mac and Linux
Reset Generation is one of the few games (or the only one?) from N-Gage that you can currently play on your phone as well as on the web through our dedicated Symbian-Guru Reset Generation web page for example. Mac and Linux users like me have been greated with a “Your browser is not supported, please use IE6 or later” notification from the Plumber whenever they try playing the game, but that is apparently set to change. As Ewan Spence from AAS reports, Mark Ollila, Nokia Games Publishing’s Director, has announced that a Mac and a Linux compatible version of the web game is being worked on, and will be available for free just like the Windows Version.
Nokia’s moderate Mac support has been bugging me ever since I moved to a Macbook, and this is definitely good news for me, as Reset Generation is one N-Gage game that I really, really, really like.
