In addition to the trio of firmware updates that were released last week, Nokia has kicked off this week with a pair of application updates. Both SportsTracker and Mail for Exchange were recently updated, with a few cool new features in both applications.
SportsTracker was updated to v2.05, with added support for touchscreen phones like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and also the ability to zoom in on maps. Step counting is also integrated, for devices with a built-in accelerometer. The application also now includes support for the Polar Bluetooth heart rate monitor belt, normally included with the N79 Active. We reviewed this previously, but also confirmed that neither Nokia nor Polar currently have any plans to offer the belt as a stand alone product – which is a darn shame. An ‘Active Pack’ that includes the belt, better headphones, and an arm band would sell quite well, I would think. To get the new version of SportsTracker, simply open the application on your phone, and click ‘Check for Updates’.
Mail for Exchange was updated to v2.9. Mail for Exchange is Nokia’s email client that allows users to connect to a Microsoft Exchange server, for OTA PIM updates of contacts, calendar, and other information. The system also offers push email. New version v2.9 includes support for access point prioritization, as well as the ability to synchronize contact photos (finally). You can check out the full release notes at E-Series.org (which has apparently sprung back to life, thankfully!) or download it here.
