We have already covered tripods quite extensively here on Symbian-Guru, especially during Phontography Week where Ricky talked about the Nokia DT-22 and Sunpak Versipod, as well as the QuickPod. But in my search to find an alternative to these, ehm, expensive, and unavailable in Europe tripods, I stumbled upon what could be the most amazing bargain of all.
The generically named 3.5″ Cell Phone Camera Tripod from DealExtreme is priced at 2.65$ (yes, that is two dollars and sixty five cents) and for more icing on the cake, is delivered *free* of charge worldwide. It was a no-brainer to me, and I decided to plunge down and buy it, just to see if it will really be delivered to my door. Two weeks later, the tripod was here, and I was really only charged 2.65$.
The tripod is made out of two elements, a black plastic that serves the role of holding your device and offers a tripod pinhole, as well as a small 15cm metallic tripod. The tripod is made to hold handsets vertically, as can be seen on the DealExtreme page, but thanks to the rotating head on the metallic piece, I easily found a way to make it hold my N82 horizontally. The build quality and the materials are cheap, but it does seem to cost a bit more than the 2.65$ price tag. My major complaint is about the metallic piece not being sturdy enough and falling, unless I am a bit careful and adjust the center of gravity when I mount my N82.
If you want a cheap tripod, it can’t get any cheaper than 2.65$ with free worldwide delivery. You can also simply use the black plastic part to hold your device and get a really good tripod to mount it on instead of the metallic one provided here.
