Phoload is a website that launched last September and offers developers to upload their software to their website. Users can then download these software. Their portfolio of software covers a lot of ground as they both offers Java, Symbian and Android software suitable for a number of different devices. These offers comes as either freeware, trial or ad-supported software. Their aim is to use the community as a resource for providing feedback and discussion of the different applications found on their site.
For developers, there is absolutely no charge to upload content, unlike Ovi Store which will take 30% of the sales revenue. Developers can easily sign up and start uploading their software by going to http://www.phoload.com/developer. Phoload also acts like a portal by linking to the developers own site for purchase of a software. On the website you can filter the results by phone model, but users can also go to directly to http://www.phoload.com/symbian to filter software just for Symbian phones.
James McDonald tell us that “While there is a proliferation of phone manufacturer and operator app stores at the moment, we believe there is a role for sites such as Phoload, which can provide a single point around which users of all different phone types can download and discuss free mobile software.”
This sounds really interesting and is something to look forward for. Do you think that the hype about app stores is getting a bit congested or does it lie wisdom in James McDonald’s words?
