This exciting Samsung device has been known as the Samsung OmniaHD for quite some time now. For a reminder it sports the S60 5th edition operating system, an 8 megapixel camera with LED, and the most exciting thing as to be able to record videos in HD quality (per definition in 1280×720 resolution).
However, recently a spokesman at Samsung officially announced that the Omnia brand will be kept explicitly for their Windows Mobile smartphones, and that the Samsung OmniaHD will now be known simply as the Samsung i8910. There’s no mention about changes in terms of features of this particular handset, so we are sure to see all the goodies intact.
Apparently, Samsung made the decision to avoid leading their customers into confusion as the original Omnia is a Windows Mobile and the OmniaHD is a Symbian device. Personally, such a name change alone won’t change my excitement for a handset, and from a marketing perspective I do understand their “dilemma”.
What do you think, will the change of name lead to a lesser cool-factor for the handset, by not promoting the HD video recording capabilities or is it something that you won’t lift an eyebrow about?
