When it rains, it pours. Earlier this week, we let you know about Gravity, a Twitter application for your S60 powered smartphone that Dotsisx and I have been thoroughly enjoying for the past month or so. However, it’s not the only game in town. Today marks the launch of Twittix, a native S60 Twitter application from our new friends at Mojos Mobile. Mojos Mobile is the team behind the Green Phone application that we highlighted as part of the Forum Nokia Calling All Innovators program.
Twittix is a bit more simple than Gravity, but maintains similar functionality. Once you’re logged in, you are presented with your overall timeline, containing tweets from those that you’re following. You can click on any tweet to bring up a submenu that allows you to retweet, reply, or follow any links in the tweet. You can also get user information, such as the person’s profile and recent tweets, which is handy.
From the timeline view, you can click the right d-pad to scroll over to the replies, which shows any tweet that has @yourusername. The next tab to the right is your direct messages, followed by favorites and a list of your followers. There is also a really handy ‘everyone’ tab, which simply shows the public global twitter stream.
The last tab is a search tab, so that you can easily track a hashtag or search keyword. Unfortunately, in v.9 of Twittix, you cannot save these searches, which is rather annoying. Hopefully that will be fixed in a future update. Twittix supports all S60v3 and S60v5 phones, in both landscape and portrait mode, which is definitely nice to see.
There’s a free 10-day trial of Twittix, available here, or you can buy the application (with lifetime updates) for EUR4.95. However, we were able to get ahold of 5 free licenses to give away to our registered forum members! All you need to do is leave a comment on this post, letting the MojosMobile team what feature you would most like to see included in the next version! Personally, I’d like to see the ability to autostart and automatically connect with a default access point.
Don’t forget, you can follow Symbian-Guru.com on Twitter: @SymbianGuru! We post site updates there, but also chat about phones and other related topics, too.
