All I can really say is wow. For whatever reason, neither AT&T nor T-Mobile are smart enough to realize that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic NAM is a killer handset, specifically at the price point that it’s currently at (around $350 on Amazon, with sporadic weekend sales). Neither of these major carriers have picked up the touchscreen smartphone, though it’s proving popular among the unlocked crowd. However, Americans looking to get S60 5th Edition at a discount have one more chance – Cincinnati Bell.
That’s right, the Ohio-based carrier is the first in the U.S. to offer the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic NAM, priced at a reasonable $149.99, depending on which rate plan you get. You can get more information here, if you live in Cincinnati Bell’s coverage area.
In case you’re wondering how this tiny regional carrier managed to get first dibs on such a hot handset, Engadget commenter ‘big dumb dave‘ sums it up quite nicely, ‘they probably landed it bcuz they were agreeable to do it without jacking up the firmware. I will never understand why AT&T was willing to sell their soul to Apple but won’t take a Nokia handset unless they can [mess] it up with mediamall and what not. absolutely moronic.’ Couldn’t have said it better myself, Dave.
