Ikona at the N-Gage blog just posted a video showing a new version of Bounce Boing Voyage, showing off a new feature - motion control. In the video, the game is shown running on a Nokia N96, using the phone’s built-in accelerometer to control the little red ball. N-Gage has historically relied upon hardware keys for control, but with phones such as the Nokia N97, with its large touchscreen display, this might not always be available.
The Apple iPhone has used motion control in its gaming applications for a while, and users seem to really enjoy the interface. The version of Global Race included on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic also uses motion control, though I find it really inconvenient and frustrating. Hopefully, the N-Gage team has put additional focus on the sensitivity of the controls, as I find that makes all the difference.

There is no mention on the N-Gage blog as to when this new version of Bounce Boing Voyage will be available, or what other games might be controlled with the accelerometer in the future. I think it’s funny that we spent our childhood learning that moving the controller around doesn’t do anything, and now Nintendo, Apple, and Nokia are changing things up again.
