Since the introduction of Nokia Messaging, one of the biggest complaints is that Nseries owners cannot get their email inboxes shown on their Active Standby. This limitation stems from Nokia’s beliefs about the difference between Eseries and Nseries, particularly that Nseries owners didn’t care about email as much. However, as with most of the other artificial separations between Nseries and Eseries, they’re beginning to reconsider.
The Nokia N96 (Euro, currently) got a firmware update recently, to v20.050. Notable changes in this important firmware include the addition of Audio Themes (which I love), as well as a new email client. You can read the full changelog over at NokiaUsers.net here. The most important aspect of this new firmware is that it allows users to show their email inbox right there on the Active Standby screen! This is the first Nseries on the market to offer this functionality (The N86 8MP will allow this, also), but certainly not the last.
It seems as though a firmware update planned to hit the Nokia N79 sometime soon will also enable this awesome functionality. This will make my favorite Nseries handset even better than it is already, and I’m ecstatic about it! I’m also hoping that the homescreen Contacts on Ovi plugin that I saw on the E75 is coming for both phones, soon. It’s way cool.
