One thing that I dislike about Nokia’s Share Online is the limited number of destinations available. You can currently only choose between Nokia’s Ovi Share, Flickr, or the unused Vox setup. Of course, you can use ShoZu, which we’ve covered exhaustively before, but ShoZu requires you to install a whole application on your phone. They have made improvements to the background process which used to completely hose our phones, but if you like to run a clean ship, ShoZu might just be one step too many. Enter Pixelpipe.
Pixelpipe is a free service that allows you to publish your photos and videos to hundreds of different sites on the internet, including Facebook, Twitter (via Twitpic), Share on Ovi, YouTube, Photobucket, and pretty much anything else you can think of. The best part, though, is that Pixelpipe is able to use the built-in Share Online application that’s already on your phone. That means it’s not sitting in the background using up storage and RAM all the time. So, how do you get it setup?
First things first, you’ll need to setup your account at Pixelpipe.com, from a desktop computer. This is also where you’ll setup your various destinations. Personally, I have my photos uploaded to Twitpic, Share on Ovi, and Facebook, though you can see the full list of destinations here. Once that’s setup, hop back over to your phone, and open the web browser.
Navigate to http://pixelpipe.com/nokia, and login to your new Pixelpipe account. From here, you can download the configuration file. Newer phones should automatically install this app, but on older phones, you may need to navigate to it in the file browser and click to open it. This should add the Pixelpipe entry to your Share Online screen, as seen below.
Now, there’s a few more steps that you’ll need to do before you can run off taking photos everywhere. Click to activate this, and you’ll likely be directed back to the web to download an additional configuration file containing your username/password and such. Once this is setup, you’ll want to make sure you have the Pixelpipe entry highlighted, then press Options, and go down to Edit. Here, you want to make sure and change the Upload Image Size to ‘Original’, or else all your photos will come out super-small!
That’s it! You can now use Share Online just as you normally would, directly from your camera or gallery application. As you click to upload your photos, you’ll find them quickly uploaded to the various destinations automatically! Easy as pie. Pixelpipe also has a number of applications for other platforms, which you can check out here.
