When Nokia invited me to Barcelona for Nokia World 2008, I was also invited to have dinner with the N97 team the evening before the device was going to be announced to the world. I had a chance to chat, in person, with the team behind the N97, including Tomi Kuparinen and Tomoharu Yazawa. Both of these guys were really enthusiastic in telling us about their new ‘baby’, and were anxious to share their experiences in making the N97.
Now, they’ve put together a short video, to share a bit more information with anyone who wants to watch it. In just over 7 minutes, they go over the slide mechanism, how the buttons click, and various other aspects of this flagship phone. Whether you think the processor sucks or not, you should definitely watch the video. I’m always fascinated when I hear Nokians talking about how they design certain phones, because it’s interesting to hear the motivations that are behind various design decisions, such as the layout of the keyboard and the tilt of the display.
