We’ve called for a Facebook application for S60-powered smartphones for far too long, and even recently published Dotsisx’s Ultimate Guide To Facebook on S60. Both the iPhone and BlackBerries have one, and theirs have even been updated, which makes it worse. A few weeks ago, Microsoft even launched their own Facebook application for Windows Mobile-powered smartphones, and yet we S60 users wallow in nothingness. We do have a fancy visual bookmark, though…..
If you weren’t already panting heavily over the upcoming Nokia N97, you now have another reason. Last100.com has taken an in-depth look at the N97′s interface, specifically the Facebook application hidden within, and found some really cool integrations available.

For starters, through this application, you can interact with Facebook on nearly every level. This includes updating your status, writing on your friends’ walls, and reading your stalkerfeed, to keep up with your friends without actually talking to them. You can also, apparently, upload a photo straight from your device, which is rather cool (though you can already do this now with Pixelpipe).

Even better, though, is the integration with Facebook events. You can quickly view your upcoming events, but more importantly, you can also copy those events to your phone’s local calendar, which is definitely way cool. Unfortunately, one thing I don’t see is integration with my phone’s Contacts application. I’m really hoping that we soon have the abilities of Fonebook, but delivered as a mobile app, eliminating the need to use Outlook.
More importantly, though, I want to know that Nokia is not going to keep such a fully-featured application tied down to the N97. There’s absolutely no reason that an application like this shouldn’t be developed by Nokia, and made available for ALL S60 3rd Edition phones, as well as S60 5th Edition.
What do you think? Are you a Facebook user? If you are, don’t forget you can also check out the Symbian-Guru Facebook page. You can read the full walkthrough at Last100.com.
