Mobbler has been updated again, this time to v0.5.2, with new support for gesture control on touchscreen phones. There’s also a bevy of other awesome new features, such as the ability to toggle higher quality album art, as well as a new 64k quality stream, which should help data costs for some, and make streaming over EDGE a better experience.
This new version takes advantage of the new official Last.FM API, which means that you *will* need to be a paying monthly subscriber to Last.FM to be able to stream music, regardless of where you live. It’s only $3/mo, and you can sign up here. Keep in mind, also, that Mobbler uses your phone’s data connection, which means you either need an unlimited data plan, or a WiFi access point to use it.
Some of the sweet new features in this new version include the ability, on touchscreen phones like the 5800 XpressMusic and N97, to simply swipe the album art to skip to the next track. On newer phones, Destinations are also now supported, which is great news for me. Another fun feature is the ability to set an alarm, so that Last.FM will begin playing at a designated time. I’ll certainly be using this in the future.
You can get the full rundown of changes and new features here, and download Mobbler here. Alternatively, if you have Mobbler installed on your phone already, simply open the app and allow it to connect to the internet. It should automatically check for a new update.
