Nearly a year ago, I thought the LG KT610 was the ugliest S60 phone to date. However, many of you disagreed, citing the N78 (which was pretty bad), the N91, and the overall winner, the Siemens SX1. While those were all hideous phones, a new, unannounced model clearly takes the cake as the ugliest S60-powered smartphone to date. Boy Genius Report recently spent some time with this beast, to give us some live pics of the thing.
As you can see, not only was the Nokia 6790 aka Mako beaten with the ugly stick, it looks like it might have gotten to take it home, too. For starters, that’s a fantastically small display. There’s also this odd angled section along the left/bottom edge, which makes the thing look really unweildy. The strip of 3 buttons along the edge also look crazily out of place.
When you slide the QWERTY keyboard out, at least things start to match up a bit. The numeric keypad labels embedded in the keyboard share a similar design with that funky angled section, and the keyboard actually looks quite usable. When you look at the other QWERTY smartphones from both Nokia and other manufacturers, specifically on AT&T’s lineup, you just can’t help but wonder who on earth designed this thing.
In any case, Boy Genius reports a low-end feature set, which indicates an entry-level price, which is likely what it’s going to take to move these….things off the shelves. You can check out his full gallery here.
