Recently, Symbian Foundation’s David Wood (who we interviewed previously) posted about WRT widgets, asking for suggestions as to what widgets you’d like to see. One answer that intrigued him was for a Symbian.org widget, which would allow Symbian users to keep up with happenings around the Foundation – and so it was. The new Symbian on Symbian widget can be downloaded straight from the Developer forums, to easily access the forums, wiki, blogs, and bugzilla.

Granted, this is coming directly from the Symbian Foundation, but WRT widgets are a fascinating opportunity, and I like how quickly it was developed. I know there are a few Symbian-Guru readers who are working on their own WRT widgets, and I think that’s awesome.

If you’re interested in giving it a shot, your best bet is to check out Aptana Studio, which has a fully-featured WRT plugin. This plugin allows you to check things out, including previewing your widget, packaging it up as an installable file, and then you can easily distribute it.
If you create your own widget, let us know here at Symbian-Guru, either using the Contact Us page, or in the Forum. We’ll highlight any that we really like, so that more readers can discover the cool widgets.
