When the new N-Gage was announced, they had apparently planned to offer carrier billing in as many countries as possible. Unfortunately, the carriers weren’t all keen on this, so in some places, such as Canada and the United States, we’re stuck entering our credit card details on our phones (or using the N-Gage website). The same goes for the Ovi Store, which launched earlier this year.
Fortunately, reader Jamaalism has shared this screenshot, showing that N-Gage and Rogers Wireless have now teamed up to offer carrier billing on the N-Gage gaming platform. This means, when you want to purchase an N-Gage game on your phone, you can simply have the price added to your monthly phone bill – no more entering your credit card details on your phone and all that mess. Easy peasy.
This is a big step forward, and hopefully one that we’ll see rolled out to other carriers in North America and to other Nokia services really soon. Apparently AT&T plans to support the Ovi Store on its Symbian-powered smartphones, such as the E71x and the Surge, later this year, so it’s likely we’ll see this soon on AT&T.
Do you have the carrier billing option on your phone? What’s your carrier, and have you ever used it?
