In addition to Ovi Maps leaving the Nokia Beta Labs, Ovi Contacts has just been updated, finally offering support for S60v5 phones such as the 5800 XpressMusic and N97 (has anyone tried it on the Samsung i8910?). If you’re the lucky owner of a Nokia N97, you even get more functionality, as the Ovi Contacts presence is passed through to your phone’s contacts, showing real-time presence information both in the contacts app and on your homescreen, if you have the contacts widget setup.
Beware, though, this is in Beta, which means you may have some issues. While Dotsisx was able to easily install the app on her N97, login, and take some screenshots for us, I’m having serious issues on both my 5800 XpressMusic and my N97. I’m able to install Ovi Contacts just fine, and can enter my login credentials and click the login button. However, shortly after it makes a connection, the whole thing crashes and dumps me back on the homescreen.
If you give it a go, let us know what phone you’re using and whether it works ok or not. If you do run into a snag, be sure to report it on the Beta Labs forum as a bug report, so that the team can start working on a fix. If you have my same crashing problem, you can just chime in on my bug report here.
To download Ovi Contacts on your phone (any phone, not just S60v5), simply point your phone’s browser to http://contacts.ovi.com/dist/app and you’ll find the links you need.
