Last time we posted something about a new Python version, was when the version 1.9.4 was released. Another update have now surfaced bringing the Python version up to 1.9.6. Following the same trend, it moves towards richer functions and support for handsets like the N97, 5800 XpressMusic and it’s little sibling the 5530 XpressMusic.
Some of the more exciting features it offers are support for 4-ways directional pad for Canvas and text widgets, smaller packaging size when compiled into a .sis or .sisx file, a new chapter added into the Python documentation and the usual roundup of bugfixes.
Other interesting things in this release are the separate files in which the installation file for the shell are provided with different capabilities. You can find more information with the whole changelog and download links from here. As it says it’s not a final product and precautions should be made as this version requires the OpenC libraries which can hose your N-gage application.
However this can be a small prize to pay when you can make use of useful and cool applications such as the XpressAlarm, GTranslate and Nixie Watch. Are you excited that Python have gotten updated and getting closer to a final product?
