Well, it looks as though Nokia’s markting team is working hard behind the scenes on less obvious marketing opportunities, as we discovered recently with Netflix. A new discovery from reader Mark Franklin shows that Nokia and Facebook are in cahoots, as you can see in the link on m.Facebook.com when browsing with your touchscreen-enabled Symbian-powered smartphone, such as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
You can see here, Facebook’s mobile site is able to determine that I’m accessing the site from the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and offers a handy download link for the Facebook for S60 widget, through the Ovi Store. While I personally am hoping for a much more stable and powerful app for Facebook on Symbian, I am glad to see things like this, which will no doubt help Symbian users get more usage from their phones, and will hopefully help the non-educated Symbian users out there to discover the abilities of their phones.
The link did not show up when I browsed the site from my Nokia N79, unfortunately, and I definitely hope that Facebook releases a Symbian version of the Facebook for BlackBerry application really soon. Have you seen any other instances of Nokia/Symbian being highlighted on your favorite services?
If you’re using a non-touchscreen Symbian-powered smartphone like the Nokia N79, N95, or E71, and want to use Facebook from your phone, you can check out Dotsisx’s Ultimate Guide To Facebook On S60.
