    Here’s mine on my i8910 http://yfrog.com/4747550547j

It’s still a work in progress after a forced firmware reset, but this is generally how I set mine up. The Applications folder is normally empty, being reserved for newly installed apps. I may replace this one and move it to Tools.

Compared to the menu’s on my old N95, it’s much easier to do this with 5th edition – the only thing that annoys me is why it has to add the “parent folder icon” as the first icon as it shifts everything about so you don’t really see what’s going on. If they just shrunk the whole screen down leaving a gap along the top or bottom with controls, that would be have been nicer.

    I do it as follows:
    Settings
    Applications
    Office
    Video
    Utils
    PIM
    Net
    Data
    Games
    Widget
    System
    Audio

There is another folder, “Crap”, that goes inside the Applications folder, containing all the apps I never use (including Help, My Nokia, Welcome, Sett. wizard, Access. setup, About…). That’s it. The main thing is to have all apps just a couple of clicks away, and no more than 12 in each folder, just not to use the scroll (another click)…

    Thanks in advance!!

@kamishly, the theme is on the i8910 by default and is called “Universal”, the other that I don’t use is “Precision”.

I’d love to use Gold v3 by Dhanusaud, but it’s not 100% compatible with the i8910. Maybe v4 will be.

If anyone can point me in the direction of how to extract a built-in theme from the phone, I’d give it a go.

I just use jbaktaskman – it’s so awesome that I _never_ use the default menus. Home 1-click goes to jbaks task list. 2-clicks goes to the app starter menu – type a couple of chars, bingo select! 3-clicks for the home screen which I dont use much.

Startings apps that way is way quicker than trundling through a mine of menus. And I dont have to remember which darn menu to trundle to. Really cant imagine using the phone any other way now, but I’m a linux desktop user and have been starting all my apps that way for years, since I’ve always found a start menu slow and cumbersome (why should I need to take my hands off the keyboard to start a prog eh?)

Perhaps it’s only me but I don’t like to change the original layout.
First because the original folders have nice icons, the user created one have not.
Second because I have had an E71 for a year now, and it has the most logically organised menu I have ever seen on a Nokia phone. I think every app by default is in the right folder, and contrary to N-Series Nokia didn’t go with the “let’s put all these settings and application shortcuts we couldn’t classify as ‘Media’ in the ‘Installations’ folder” strategy(btw, it also sound to me like “let’s do crap and mess the menu up so they will have something to do when they are bored”). And since the E71 is so fast, I just LOVE sometimes to go through the menu to launch an app (but usually I just use a single-handed application launcher, SmartSettings, ’cause I don’t like to be forced to use both hands to launch an app).

    @Paul:

I do agree with you, and I tried to launch apps that way on my phone too, but God, this JbakTaskman thing is just plain UGLY !!! I mean, it’s probably the UGLIEST app I have ever installed on my phone !!! It not only doesn’t follow the “S60 Interface Guidelines”, but it is also UGLY. Many people used to say the same for Lonelycatgames’ apps (Profimail, X-plore…) but they change that by using the phone themes, but JbakTaskman…oh man…

But your thoughts convinced me enough (hey, Linux user here too !) to try it onnce more, who knows… :)

The most important thing to me is the “Applications” folder, the sub-folders inside it are:
-Infrequent: these are the applications I rarely use
-Desktop: these are the applications that starts with the phone and starts in the background or the applications that I have created shortcuts for (I use “Smart Settings” and “Cute Keys”).
    - The others are self-explanatory.

This is to the other Linux user that commented on how ugly JbakTaskman’s interface is. I totally agree with you on how hideous the UI is when I first started using it. But that has changed since the 1.09 release (I might be wrong about the version # that made the improvement).

Now it supports whatever theme/skin that you are using with your phone including the icons. Although some more polishing on the UI would be great but at the current state it is much better than it used to be and doesn’t hurt your eyes anymore :-)

    Cheers

I don’t have a particular menu structure anymore since I discovered the JBak Taskman launcher.
I have kept some generic folders like Settings, GPS, Office, Organizer etc to keep stuff in, but I hardly go there anymore.
Active Standby + JBak Program List + JBak Task Manager is quite sufficient to locate and launch any program (except JBAK itself – very occasionally it does not autostart on a reboot).
