Boingo is one of my favorite travel tools. They have an application for your computer, your phone, or even your Internet Tablet, all of which allow you to automatically connect to a number of different WiFi hotspots around the world. For a monthly fee, you get access to Boingo’s large network of hotspots, such as in airports or hotels. It’s much easier than setting up an account on each of these hotspot services, and cheaper, usually, as well. The software came preinstalled on the Nokia N97, and even included 3 months of free service, which is a steal, and something I definitely recommend that you check out.
However, you’ve probably noticed that you cannot uninstall Boingo, as it’s baked into the firmware of your phone. Also, you’ve likely noticed that the application creates a Boingo IAP access point in your phone that you cannot get rid of, even if you’re not using the service.
Fortunately, Boingo has released a patch, which you can download here, that eliminates this leftover access point easily. Simply install the patch, and it will launch itself as soon as the installation is complete. Easy as pie.
