One of the complaints I often hear about Symbian-powered devices is that the battery indicator is frequently inaccurate, often dropping several bars at once, or simply not showing correct power levels. A new application from Capree, called iON BatteryTimer, aims to change that by offering detailed power statistics for S60 3rd Edition smartphones, with support for S60 5th Edition coming soon. iON BatteryTimer is available now from the Symbian-Guru Store for $9.95, with a 9-day free trial available.
There are several key factors that make iON BatteryTimer a potential must-have. For starters, the application is able to show advanced statistics about your battery, such as the time remaining and the average life, which is definitely helpful to make sure that you’re getting the maximum power from your battery.
My two favorite features, however, are the standby plugin and the powersaver. The standby plugin can be toggled on or off, and shows the current battery level on your standby screen, quickly giving you an idea as to how long before you’ll need to track down a charger. You can see it in action below:
The power saver can be enabled in your phone’s powersaver settings, under themes, and will show the current battery level. Even better, however, is the charging status, which is apparently able to give you an idea of how charged your phone currently is, if you were to disconnect the charger at that precise moment - BRILLIANT.
I’ll be testing this application on my Nokia N86 for the next few days to see how well it works over time. The installation instructions do say that you’ll need to fully charge/discharge your battery 3-5 times before iON BatteryTimer will be able to give an accurate measurement, which makes sense to me. You can purchase iON BatteryTimer directly through the Symbian-Guru Store for $9.95.
UPDATE: We were also able to score 5 license codes to give away for Symbian-Guru readers!
