The Nokia N86 8MP has been available in Europe for a few months, which is long enough to get its first firmware update, apparently. Nokia just announced that firmware v11.043 is available for the N86 8MP, either via NSU or OTA (Over-The-Air). The new firmware replaces Download! with Ovi Store, and supposedly improves the landscape orientation in Ovi Maps. Nokia claims to have made other improvements, as well, such as in Share Online, the Camera, and the Web Browser.
You can check for the new firmware by pressing *#0000# on your phone, then choosing Options – Check for updates. Alternatively, you can use Nokia’s Software Update application on your PC to download the update. The N86 8MP features UDP (User Data Preservation), which should ensure that your settings and information is safe, but it’s a good idea to backup any critical information, anyways.
The NAM variant of this imaging powerhouse is expected soon, with The Nokia Blog suggesting a ship date of August 22.
