Whao, this seems like a great all-rounder application! A feature that would be a great addition to this application would be something like a task manager. Imagine this and something like JbakTaskman mashed together. Not only do you get a one key access to a great file manager and other additions of the software but also a task manager. Great! ;)

I hope they can come up with feature which will allow setting default location to memory card when you recieve files via Bluetooth/IR.

For me there are two functionalities I would love to see added to Symbian Phones.

    Destination or Access Point Manager
The first and possibly more applicable is monitoring of Access Point/Destination useage for those times when you know that something is using an access point but are not sure what. The main use for this would be when you have number of apps automatically connecting via access points to update.

    GPS Positioning Manager
The second, slightly less applicable functionality is GPS application specific access control. Basically as a user of both OVI Maps and Sports Tracker, as well as Viewranger, I would like to be able to enable and disable GPS positioning methods dependent on the application. I would like to use an external BT GPS Module when using Sports Tracker and Viewranger, but just the internal GPS module when using OVI Maps.

Also incorporation of an autostarting Taskmanger. FExplorer could be accessed from the Taskmanager which would replace the standard Taskmanager starting via the standrd long press. Presently I use Best Taskman for this at the mo’ having used both JBak and Handy in the past. I find Best Taskman to be the nicest interface on the Nokia N97 (in my opinion anyway). I’ll probably switch back to JBak, in the mean time, when it’s developed a bit further from ver.1.0 R16. Loved it on my old N95 8GB (s60v3.1), but not quite there for me on the N97 (s60v5).

I’d love to see editable keyboard shortcuts (for the N97, using maybe the caps button), built in picture viewer that allows you to scroll between different pictures within the same folder, maybe a custom menu allowing us to change which applications open different extensions. And finally how about built in .rar support and OBEX bluetooth support?

While we’re at it, maybe UPNP function to open files on a connected network? That would be AMAZING!

    Anyhow, thanks a lot!

Hey, any network connectivity in a program like this is well received (NAS,(S)FTP,ORB,etc.). Especially symsmb/symsync functionality.
But at the very least, I’m happy to hear we’ll have access to some of the hidden folders without having to hack our phones. Thanks for the review and heads up.

One feature that I would love to see would be access to inbox. I use internal phone memory for messaging. There are many times that I transfer installable files to my E63 over bluetooth without using the PC suite. Having access to your files that are lying in the inbox would enable you to move them to other folders on the card memory thus freeing up precious phone memory.

bit of a long shot but what about a system image and rollback feature, or perhaps just a system rollback. Ie, prior to installing an app, a system image is taken of each of the drives and then after the install, if the app isnt wanted the system can be rolled back. May cause problems with new content such as messages and call logs which arrive during the installation and just after.

I think this might seem a bit far fetched but I really think a clean up utility, that auto detects will be good.
Too often there’s files left behind when deleting a game. FExplorer can inform us of saved files etc that are remaining when deleting the main program and ask if all other related files should be deleted.

I’d like to be able to make and run little batch scripts, like DOS .bat would do, to be able to move all the certain files from one dir to another, make folders, whatever. It should be simple to create the script without typing lots of stuff on the multitap keypad.

And the developer of FExplorer Dominique Hugo was planning a free version in July too:
    =====
I’m nearly closed to release a non-free version of FE thru http://www.sbsh.net (not free means for only a few $, don’t hurry !!) “not free” because I have some problem with my development time and with my site ( which I must pay … ),
the new version will be available on my site soon with a delay in a splash
screen for the free version (this delay will be, of course, deleted for
    registered users)

I’d like to see the possibility to have a single icon, be it in the menus, or on the Standby Launcher, that utilises the “Reboot” feature of this application, so that we can more easily again Reboot the phone with a minimum of clicks.

Especially as S60 3rd Ed. FP2 does away with the possibility of using other Python based “Restart” applications, due to changes in the API’s in FP2 etc.

    So that would be cool!

Support for all compressed archives (RAR, 7Zip, etc.) would be great. And i´m waiting for a magic explorer app for ages that would make it possible to move an entire app from internal to external memory and vice versa. I know that it is not just moving the files and i also know that this would maybe not be the work of a file explorer, but anyway it would be cool. :-P

To enable the phone act more like a laptop, I would like that FExplorer has advanced built-in options incorporated. One feature, I would surely like to be added, is explained as follows.
I can access the shared folders of my PC on my laptop by entering the IP address of the PC in the “Run” command prompt like “\###.###.#.#”. When connected, I can copy files from my PC to my laptop or can explore the shared drive or folders of the PC from my laptop. I want such a facility to be added in FExplorer so that we may be able to access shared drive/ folders of the PC to which our mobile (like N95 or other WiFi enabled phones)is wireless connected (Through WiFi).
This facility would surely boost the technical competency of this software.
    Thanks

I would like to see FExplorer help in cleaning up the memory.
Lot of unwanted files get created and fill up the phone memory over many months of use. Only a software reset can erase the phone memory and start afresh.
If FExplorer could identify all the unwanted browser cache files, deleted emails, etc, memory can be reclaimed and we will have better experience.

Wow, its such a great app Guru.

With so many features, what more can you ask for?? One thing that comes to mind is the ability to turn on flash. Embedded into the app, we won’t need a seperate app for flash/torch usage.

Another feature i would like to see is the ability to enter the messaging menu. To help with easy moving/copying of attachments and files in the messaging inbox.

Here are the features that I want to see in the next update of FExplorer Pro:

    1. Since the current version of the application can control the backlight, it would also be good if the developers will include the “torch” function, making use of the phone’s camera flash as flashlight. I think that is possible to implement because most of Nokia’s recent S60v3 devices have the “video light” feature in video recording.

    2. Since the current version of the application features internal memory defragmentation, it would also be nice if the developers will include a facility that will check for errors or bad sectors in the phone’s internal memory.

    3. Another nice feature that could be added in the search/find function of the FExplorer application would be: Whenever a user searches for a specific file type (e.g. *.jpg, *.mp3, etc.) and several results are displayed / listed, there would be an option wherein the results could be sorted / arranged (e.g. name, size, date modified, etc.) like that of the Windows file manager.

    4. Another feature I also want to add in the search/find function of the application is the capability to show the full path / location of a file whenever the user is viewing its details. It’s because with the built-in file manager in Nokia devices, the details of the file are displayed, but its full path is not included. That would be helpful if the searched file is hidden deep within subfolders and the user would want to go to that folder to access it.

    5. Like that of the Windows file manager, it would be nice to see that whenever a single file or folder is selected / highlighted, a tool tip text (with fade-in and fade-out effect) showing some details of the selected file (e.g. type, size, date modified, etc.) will be displayed. And whenever two or more files are marked, the application will display a tool tip text showing how many files are selected and their total file size.

    6. All Nokia S60v3 device users know that the built-in backup facility in the file manager only allows the user to backup all the data, including the ones that they don’t need. It would be nice if the application will provide the users with options to select the items / data (e.g. contacts, messages, notes, etc.) that they would only want to backup, like that of the Nseries PC Suite and Ovi Suite so that whenever the user will restore backup to their phones, only their needed data will be restored.

    7. Since the built-in QuickOffice and Adobe Reader application in most Nokia S60v3 devices are only capable of opening and reading their respective files, it would be nice if FExplorer could provide password protection for these files, so that confidential documents that are stored in the phone won’t be easily opened and read.

    8. Also, password protection for other files such as images and videos would be a welcome addition. So that no one could easily view the user’s private images and videos unless a password is entered. This should also be applied when archiving files, if the files to be zipped are confidential.

I’d like the ability to do a lot of this stuff not on the handset. Sorta like an inverse Ovi Files, where it synchs to a remote site and you use a browser to both mess with settings and get to ANY file on the device from any internet-connected computer. Of course, with suitable security, disabled by default and only able to be re-enabled from the handset.

If not in there (I didn’t look at all the details yet), I’d like the ability to over-ride the default folder creation system for image and video capture, etc. I want all my photos in one place, not subfolder after subfolder with an arbitrary number of files in each one.

Is this the professional version of FExplorer developed by Dominique HUGO? (see http://www.gosymbian.com/fexplorer_new.php)

  • http://www.rickycadden.com Ricky Cadden

The guys at SBSH worked directly with Dominique to update FExplorer for new devices.

  • VinceJS

So what is the difference between this pro version and the one available from Dominique's web site?
