    What about E72??

Yeah, what about the E72? Q3 will be over in two weeks, and as of yet we can’t even pre-order it yet. Something wrong?

These lag times do suck pretty badly… First waited for ages for the N97, which was then pretty disappointing, now waiting to choose between the E72 and the N900.

It all made me stay with my N82 longer than with any other phone I’ve owned. Still like it though.

I wonder if the “pre-order” is like the one for the N79 Active in Germany. There they pushed back the release date six times in four months and finally removed it completely from the on-line store.

I think this post might be best titled “Nokia Lets You Preorder Any of Its High-Margin Attention Grabbers, But You’re SOOL If You Want One Of Their Solid Mid-Range Phones Any Time This Century.” OK, I know we’re still in the middle of an awkward period on phone hardware development, where it seems be be prohibitively expensive to produce quad-band 3G phones for the casual user, and I dare say that in good time the costs of the chips and so forth will come down and we’ll get to a situation with 3G the same as where we are with GSM – quad-band as standard.

But until we get to that point, and before Nokia loses the US market to Korean firms, could Nokia please stop sitting on perfectly attractive models like the new E-Series machines (ex the E-75) and the new Classic models? There is a market for them, probably more than the horrible flip-top phones Nokia chucks at the US carriers.

While I think it’s a step forward that they’re now implementing preorders on new devices as they’re getting closer to launch, it’s two steps back when those preorders don’t get processed with the first batch. Nokia’s preorder system has left plenty of early buyers high and dry for both the N97 and the 5800XM and kinda defeats the purpose of a preorder altogether. Not a good way to establish trust if customers can find a faster way of getting a new phone after it’s released outside of the preorder and still through Nokia.

And don’t get me started about the headaches that come with trying to cancel a preorder. Because of all that, I wouldn’t recommend anyone drop money on a Nokia preorder unless they really don’t care when the device ships.
