Today, Nokia Messaging released the heavily anticipated update, which brings HTML support to touchscreen smartphones, such as the Nokia N97 and the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The new HTML support can be enabled as the default view, or set to manual, just as it has been on the S60v3 devices for a few months. It is actually quite good, as you can see in the screenshots below.
Other updates include an adjustment to the synchronization frequency settings, as well as better touch support. I have also noticed that the labels of the application throughout the system has been fixed to read ‘Nokia Messaging Email’, as opposed to ‘E-mail’ as it did earlier. This is noticeable in the Send menu in the phone’s gallery.
All in all, this is an excellent upgrade from the Nokia Messaging team. The only complaint I have is that there *still* doesn’t seem to be a functionality to automatically check to verify that my phone has the latest version, and upgrade if not. Hopefully that feature will come next, and I’d also like to see contacts/calendar syncing, as well.
You can get the new version of Nokia Messaging from Email.Nokia.com.
What do you think of this new version? Would you also like to see Nokia Messaging include contacts and calendar synchronization, or do you think that’s beyond the realm of what this service is supposed to offer?
