The team over at AllAboutSymbian.com have reported that the Ovi Store is starting to roll-out the ability for users to re-download content purchased from the Ovi Store. It should be noted, this is not currently universally available – at the moment, it seems to require that you are using Ovi Store v1.05 (271) or newer, and has been confirmed by AllAboutSymbian to work on the N97, E55, N86, 5800 XpressMusic, and E75.
This is by no means a complete roll-out, as AAS discovered. Currently, it is (seemingly randomly) limited to specific applications on specific handsets. However, if things continue to be rolled out, it would appear as though the content is closely tied to your Nokia Account, so that you can not only re-download the application to the same device you purchased it for, but also re-download it to a new handset (if you upgrade your phone, for instance).
Nokia has not made any official announcements as to how this re-download option will look when it’s done, but you have to give them credit for acknowledging this issue and making changes so quickly. Also, note that there are several periods of scheduled maintenance for the Ovi Store over the next few days, and this could be related. Great job to the Ovi Store team, and we’ll look forward to an official announcement on the policies for re-downloading content in the near future.
