Waze, which we previewed earlier, is a GPS and navigation application for your Symbian-powered handset. From the official website there are only 7 phones displayed as being supported being the E66, E71, E75, N82, N85, N95 and the N96. However TheGuru himself was able to test the application on his N79 so we can assume that it will run perfectly fine on handsets running the S60 3rd Edition of Symbian. Unfortunately, after a bit of testing we can confirm that S60 5th Edition smartphones such as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic or the N97 are not currently supported. The Waze team has said they’re working on this.
Waze, however is not just like any other navigation applications out there. It’s a given that you’ll get up to date traffic warnings from this application, but these are provided by the Waze users, which makes it much more accurate. It does so by asking you if there is heavy traffic if you go under the speed limit, and offering the ability to submit reports from the road. It’s also social, in that when you discover new roads you will get more points and the data gets collected into their database. Beneficial for you, beneficial for me.
If you like new ways of using GPS applications then Waze is worth checking out. The animations and avatars also make the application look like a game and fun to use, and did I mention it’s completely free?
Have you tried the application yet and is there something you don’t like about it? You can download Waze by directing your phone to http://m.Waze.com. Note that Waze does not locally store maps, but rather relies on your phone’s internet connection, so you’ll want to make sure you have an unlimited plan.
