Jan Ole, the lone developer at MobileWays.de, and the creator of one of the best power-user applications to use Twitter on Symbian, Gravity, has released an alpha update today for brave souls who don’t mind a few bugs. This update includes a brand new feature, support for Google Reader. The implementation is a bit rough, and in the early stages (hence the ‘alpha’ tag), but if you’re up for it, you can test this out yourself.
As you can see, once you enter your Google credentials, the ‘Newsreader’ tab shows up, and clicking on it brings you a stream of your RSS feeds – much like the Twitter feed looks like.
When you click on an entry, it expands to show a bit more information, as well as options such as read, mark as unread, favorite, and URL. Clicking URL gives you the standard Gravity options, including open in browser, copy to clipboard, send to instapaper, and more.
When you click ‘Read’, you’re shown the full article (or whatever is in the feed), along with any notes that your Google friends have shared, as you can see in the screenshot below. Obviously, at this point, photos are not supported, nor is there a convenient ‘tweet this’ button.
Given that this is the first version of Gravity to support Google Reader, it’s incredibly well done. Personally, though, I would like to see it available as a standalone application. I have 4 Twitter accounts and one Facebook account setup in Gravity, so loading just that takes a few seconds, let alone adding my Google Reader in there, as well.
You can download the alpha version here.
What about you? What things would you like to see added to this?
Gravity is available as a 10-day trial at MobileWays.de, or you can buy it for $10 through the Ovi Store.
