Aren’t there any plans for a N97 homescreen widget ? It will be awesome to have one on my N97 :)

  • http://www.rahulgaitonde.org Rahul Gaitonde

Google Reader was the one major application that didn’t have a decent S60 app – until now. I’m most definitely looking forward to this.

    - I’d love “Share with note” to be part of the first release. I use that feature pretty heavily.
    - In the next release, perhaps a Comments view from friends would be a nice addition.

  • http://vyomnokiablog.blogspot.com Vyom

Well i desperately need gReader because i can stay updated with my subscribed blogs, best abt gReader is i can forward it to Twitter so i can share favorite articles on twitter, built-in image support(thats awesome), and search which i can use it to search my feeds. So Please send me one licence for this amazing app
    Thanks

  • ZeDestructor

Transferring my feeds over to gReader now, as it FINALLY goes mobile :D. If it has Twittix/Gravity integration it would be even better!

  • http://www.symbian-guru.com Dotsisx

@ZeDestructor it supports forwarding news to Twitter, you just have to enable it in the settings and it’s very cool. Check the video at 7:48 i think and you’ll see it in action.

  • http://twitter.com/shilpeshap bajrangbali

Well i had a twitter account but hardly used it,But gravity made me use it 24×7..

and also now that i do have a greader account but hardly use it.. we’ll see if this makes the same magic :)

  • http://bettercmty.com/ Patricia

My favourite thing about the gReader is not so much of feature since it’s very much a representation of what the Google Reader offers. My favourite is the UI. Absolutely critical in any app development in my opinion. Great work, Rita & Mojomobile!

I plan to use it to keep up with my RSS subscriptions. Have been doing it using the Google Reader mobile version but it’s nothing compare to what I have seen in the demo video.

One feature I would suggest is allowing us to edit the texts we are about to share on Twitter so we can add in what we wanna say in addition to title & links.

    Cheers!

  • http://utestme.com Green

I like the sharing via email or twitter options. I use Google Reader on PC, and Resco News on Symbian, but the mobile app is not easy to be customized and it definitely knows much less than GReader.
    Regards

good day … gReader is everything! is an application that runs the google reader and its subscriptions, as well as post to twitter, send your feeeds by sms and more. short, is the complete application is missing for symbian handsets. hugs to everyone …

Looks good on a large touch screen. But haven’t seen screenshots of how it will look or perform on a non-touchscreen.

My most important feature request for the non-touchscreen version is the ability to skim through the list with one key access to the following features – Mark as Unread & Next, Mark as Read & Next, Share, Start, View. I don’t want to read my entire list from the phone. But I want to sort out the important stuff from the non-important ones so that I don’t have to go through them when I am going through my list on the computer. The same news gets reported by majority of the sites, but only a few of them offer the entire coverage. I can keep the few sites I know would be offering the best coverage unread for later viewing, and mark the others as read, in just one click for each post.

    Hope gReader has that.

  • Nathan Jones

I miss out on my Greader feeds at the weekends and when I am not at my work PC. It is good to have them “on the go”. I use the GReader feature of Gravity extensively but it would be good to have a dedicated application rather than a “bolt on”. The main reason is that with GReader in Gravity I’m finding start up times getting longer now with more data coming through.

  • Jonathan James

The feature i love in greader is the fact that there is now an integrated app that not only sync with your google account, but gives you the ability to bring it along with you. Offline viewing is always sought for because of things like cost, out of network issues, travelling, away from the computer.

Another addition is auto sync. This is crucial to having an offline app, and i am so very glad that gReader has this function. Sometimes waking up in the morning, i forget to sync my data, but with auto-feature, i know my E71 will always be ahead of me.

Another important thing for a reader app is User Interface. Reading words no matter how ugly, big or small is fine, but if the overall presentation seems awkward, it can put the reader off. GReader offers both worlds!! Decent fonts, great environment of presentation. Images look crips. I have not tried the app yet, but i would really love to because it looks like something i have been searching for, for a very long time!

I will use the app on the train, at work (whenever possible!) in bed before sleep. And above all, push articles out onto twitter. It would be great, in the line of development, that they integrate more services such as posterous, MySpace, etc.

But overall, great work from the developers, and great article at symbian-guru. Keep up the great work peeps!

Thank you to the outstanding developers at MojosMobile taking the initiative to develop a revolutionary native Google Reader client for the Symbian platform. I myself is very excited to use this software after many, many months of being able to only enjoy my daily feeds comfortable through my desktop and nothing so far on the S60v3 (I’m on Nokia E71) comes close to gReader in terms of feature set. Alright, Gravity is the 2nd best but hey … it was originally meant to be the best Twitter app and I do appreciate Janole’s effort to branch out to other features i.e. Facebook, etc.

Ok, going straight to the point. I’m hungry to be one of the 10 winners of the license give-away. So I’m going to give it my best shot (and I could only do this after stepping through this 10 minutes video walk through).

I really like the short-cut navigation in between the different folders / subscriptions because my Google Reader subscription is a whole lot, and if I were to press “Next”, and “Next” and “Next” from A-Z it will take ages to browse through the topics if I’m spot-on knowing what I really wanted to read. For having thought of this feature, thumbs-up! Usability is excellent.

What I wish is there would be the ability to share an article via Facebook, like how it currently has support for Twitter and provide the ability to enter our own comments together with the feedproxy URL. If any URL shortening can be added to the “sharing” capability would be good, bit.ly for instance.

That is all! Before signing-off, great work to MojosMobile and thanks Symbian-Guru for bringing us this great review, on a great piece of software :-)

    Few remarks.

    1. The swipe gesture animation looks great but it needs to be faster, it seems that it runs for about a second which is too much. It needs to run for 100 or 200ms. It will look good at the beginning but for constant use it will became annoying for the user.
    2. Font size shown in the preview is perfect for my use.
    3. Showing pictures in feed is a big thumbs up feature. Thanks for that.
    4. Kinetic scrolling seems to be sluggish, it needs to improve. Also it seems that kinetic scrolling algorithm could be better but it could be because its sluggish right now.
    5. I didn’t get the impression that gReader has offline reading, meaning: you can sync all your feeds and read it (with images) offline?

  • http://www.soulsmasher.net Arda Kilicdagi

I’m a student in university, and I cannot go to home as much as other students, and from where I stay, there is not much communication to internet. And only method I can follow my feeds and tweets is mobile. There are many clients that way of supports these features, but when I open them all in one, either the phone just freezes, or it becomes too Damn slow. If I have this program licensed it will help me keep on follow any feeds/tweets

The main feature I’m missing: Well, not everything is business life/tweets, and not every friend of mine’s using twitter, or has a blog/rss feed. An option to share stuff on facebook, or a good integration to facebook would be awesome

Thanks MojosMobile for generating such a good program, and thanks Symbian-Guru for letting me know about this program, and even making a giveaway! :)

  • Berthelsen

Looks really awesome, finally a good greader-app for symbian! Having image-support is also a really great feature! The animations between different “fields” looks cool, but I would very much like to have the option to turn the animations off. It’s a good “showoff”-function, but when the app is used on a daily (hourly?) basis, transition animation tend to be a bit unnecessary (at least that is my personal opinion!) Looking forward to trying it out when it is released.

  • Dean Macke

My favorite feature is the share ability. I want to be able to share via twitter and this offers that, so I am really excited about that. So that feature is going to be great, but more importantly for me is the basic functionality of reading my Google reader subscriptions on my phone. The company I work for doesn’t like us to spend time on the internet so I go a full day without being able to keep up so my night is spent catching up on my feeds. This will allow me to keep up during the day without letting my company know.

  • Idan

I love basic greader on gravity but would love it even more from mojos as it is more featured client. Favorite features: autosync and adition of pictures to the feed.

  • Aatif Sumar

Great! Hopefully this will be another Gravity. Like someone else said above, Gravity made me use Twitter more than i used to, and hopefully this will do the same with Google Reader for me.

  • http://www.techans.com Nikhil Pai

Looking forward to use the gReader app as dedicated apps are always convenient than just browsing through the web interface of Google Reader on the mobile browser. I think the one area where Twitter beats RSS is that Twitter has lovely apps for all mobile platforms whereas RSS services such as Google Reader have very basic ones. This app will get everyone back to following Google Reader when on the move. And I will no longer envy my colleague’s iPhone for having the NetNewsWire app from Newsgator. It will be his turn to envy the gReader app on my Nokia device.

The only factor missing is ….. a free version of the app. Hopefully someday you will release a lite version for free !! :)

  • Rutger

The thing I like most about this new app is the way it switches to it’s next screen, very stylish! I’be using this to keep up with the news during the weekend when I am away from a pc, or when I am traveling to my work by train. This is so much more convenient than checking every website separately.

  • gadgetkevin

The best feature(s) of gReader: I like the ease of moving from one article to the next, this saves much navigation time. Also I like the integration of the images.. I like pictures ;)

What I’ll use it for: I follow blogs (symbian-guru, maemo-guru, allaboutsymbian, endadget etc.) I have been using the google reader mobile version to get my fix, but gReader seems to be more fluid and more responsive with more functionality. Overall, this will be my news gathering tool.

What function to add? I would say offline viewing. For any travelers or people who know they’ll be in a low connection area or an expensively connected area, or in an airplane.. offline viewing will be a huge benefit. If implemented, one can be in another country for vacation, download the news via wi-fi, and get their news throughout the day without touching the network.

  • http://twitter.com/kiyo21 kiyo21

    Favorite feature of gReader:

My favorite feature will probably be the keypad shortcuts. Being able to easily switch between folders, subscriptions, all items, etc on a non-touch phone will definitively be nice and convenient.

What you plan on using it for:

I’ve been using google reader for the past year and have over 250+ subscriptions. I plan to use this app just as how I use the desktop version: to keep track of all the daily news, tech news, and everything nokia. The beauty about google reader is that you don’t have to go to each of your favorite website to see if it has been updated. Instead the news comes directly to you. This app will simply be an extension of the desktop version when I’m on the go or when I just don’t want to turn on my computer.

What is the main function that you think is missing:

Base on what I’ve seen in your written preview & video, I believe the main thing missing is displaying the complete feed. I’ve mentioned it in a previous post, all feeds seem to be strip down. You see only plain text, breaks for paragraphs, images (not sure if all) and that’s it. What’s missing: embedded links and basic html formating (text styling, text size, etc). Embedded links are needed. It would be nice if how the feed is presented in mojosmobile gReader is the same as how its shown, at least, on the mobile version of google reader. Hopefully, it will be looked into in a future update.

Another function missing that I didn’t see is the ability to copy the feed URL to the clipboard. It seems if you want to open the feed to the browser, you can only do so with the native browser. Without a copy to clipboard, I wouldn’t be able to easily open the link in another browser like Opera Mini or UCWeb.

  • http://jongarside.blogspot.com Jon G

Goes without saying, its got to be the offline reader – nothing better than reading through stuff on the tube.

  • Kit

As long as gReader has the ability to “star mark”, and mark as unread, I’m a happy camper. I use Google reader as one of my many “databases” of collected knowledge, so I need to be able to search through old saved posts.

  • Musa

Looks really great, I’ve been waiting for a really good rss reader so long.
Since Google Reader is my main info hub, its so amazing to see desktop like UI on mobile.
My favorite Reader functions; 1) “Share” to send it to friends and social networks 2) “tag” to store it in DB and 3) for sure to “star” items, love to read my history of stars.

  • http://www.computerguys.sg Victor

I’ve got to have this program! for too long, my iphone using friends have been flaunting their smooth streamlined interface for catching up on tech news. finally, symbian users get an rss app!

My google reader account is my personal newspaper/magazine. i couldn’t survive the morning train rides without it. please give me a free license :D

  • Marcelo

My favorite feature is the display images that we don’t have in the Gravity

  • http://www.newsfilter.gr asynadak

This seems to be a great app for my nokia n95! I really like the fact that shows the images, because I am following a lot of image related sites. I am definitely gonna use it when I am away from town (my story until August)!

  • Gian

My favorite “feature” is the whole existence of this app. I’ve been waiting FOREVER for a great way to read Google Feeds on my Nokia phone!

  • zeltak

Looove greader and just got a n97 and was desperately looking for something like this…..

love to try it out (or even better win the giveaway ;-))

    thx

    zeltak

  • taike_hk

    My favorite features of gReader:
    1) Auto Connect/Disconnet
    2) Font Size Option
    3) Forward by Twitter & Email
I’m wondering about the RAM consumption
    when running it with Gravity/Opera
    on my 5800XpressMusic.

  • Burak Yiğit Kaya

The app. seems great. I loved the double search feature but the fully gesture based UI is the best thing about gReader.

The app seems fast and slick so I think it will be a great alternative to the “Google Reader Lite” interface that I use on my Nokia 5800 XM’s browser.

    Very good job!

  • http://mdanuz.blogspot.com mdanuz

First of all thanks Rita for the wonderful work and it was good to know that you were involved in the development of this app.

This is going to be one of the best app for my mobile. I have been waiting for
a good google reader app which syncs with the online version. So my first favourite feature is the sync option and my second fav is the image display. without an images , rss feeds becomes boring.

One of the feature I would like to see in gReader is adding new rss feeds just like the web version of google reader.Add new rss feed by just giving the web site address or by google search of the website or just import it from the default s60 browser. It will also be good if this new subscription gets synced with the actual google reader.

It will also be cool to watch the flash video which gets embedded along with the feeds,so getting the mobile version of youtube to work in the gReader would give a pc like feel in the mobile.

Thanks for the awesome app , awaiting for the release

  • drkn

    Two feature suggestions:

    1. Support for the recently added Google Reader features “Popular items” and “Recommended sources”.
    2. (More importantly) option to limit the size of downloaded article (including or excluding images): some entries could be huge. There could be a link at the end of the downloaded part to fetch the rest.

    Cheers!

  • Simon

My favourite feature would be the fact it syncs with Google Reader. The navigation looks very well implemented. My use will be for catching up on news on the go and maintaining the “mark as unread” option (or star) allows me to easily mark certain items for later. I did not see all the options for syncing – if they’re as well thought out as the rest of the app I cannot imagine they would missed anything. I would like comprehensive options for when and on which network auto sync takes place.

  • Apurv

I plan to use it for mainly rss feeds, great giveaway hope i win.

  • Aidan

My favourite is simply that it is actually Google Reader, the real deal, not another RSS reader sync’ing with it. The features that seal the deal for me are the image support and auto connect. I’ve used Gravity and loved the speed but kept reading articles, wondering what images I was missing out on, so I’d “Star” the article to read later on a PC. Really I wan’t much further ahead as I was doubling my work to check articles for images later. Looking forward to the release!

  • Martinus

I would love to put this app through its paces. I use Google Reader a lot at home and am always trying to keep my unread count below the dreaded 1000+. Think of it as a prolonged stress test. I’d love a free licence.

  • Marconi

For me, the best feature will be the ability to read the whole article ‘inline’ as you say. Often I see the ’skinny’ on the news item and want to read the whole article. Then I have to click ‘open in browser’ and it takes a WHILE to get to the article I want to read. It will be much better, I’m really hoping, to use gReader and get to the whole article very quickly without loading up the web page. I think that’s worth paying eight euros for. :-)
