Having used 7710 for 3.5 years and 5800XM for almost 1 year, 7710 is landscape operated 100% whilst 5800XM in portrait 90%(in my case). I like both phones for the great user experiences they offer.

The Series 90, (yes, running Symbian) Nokia 7700 was around in 2003. It had decent touch UI and handwriting recognition in its day. It also had a monster size screen for a 2003 vintage mobile phone.

The 7700 was limited by its 104 MHz processor and strange industrial design though.

quote "Series 90 was not ’symbian’ anymore than S40 is" /quote

1. Series 40 (S40) was NEVER part of Symbian UI and it was not a smartphone UI on top of Symbian OS. Yes, Series 90 is dead, as well as Series 80 ;-)

2. You cant neglect the historic fact that Nokia 7710 was the FIRST Nokia Symbian smsrtphone with complete touch UI. Way back in 2004 (I remember holding a prototype, courtesy of Robert Harmsen of Pdatotaal.info).

3. In my opinion, you could confuse your readers by saying 5800 IS the first Symbian smartphone from Nokia with touchscreen. Where infact, it was 7710.

My 2 cents...

Peace!

You mention you got the 31.x firmware. Mine is the NAM version and Software update reports I have the latest version 21.x. I also learned that over the air updates don't work for NAM version, as the needed information is not stored in the settings. Is there a work around? Mail for Exchange works reliably and fast even going agains Kerio Mail server.
