Fire up your NSU, because after a long wait, the v20 firmware for the Nokia N97 is finally available! We’ve confirmed that it is available for both the Euro and the NAM variants, so no one is left out, it would seem. This firmware has been heavily anticipated after being highlighted at the Nokia World 2009 event in Stuttgart, Germany earlier this year.
The new firmware is reported to bring kinetic scrolling, updated versions of Ovi Maps, Nokia Messaging, Ovi Contacts, and Ovi Store, as well as enhancements in the photo and video capture and overall stability. Users are reporting that their internal storage has also increased, up to 46MB in some cases. We’re still waiting to hear back on the RAM usage with this new firmware, as well as any other changes you might have noticed.
Feel free to report your changes in the comments below, and our own Wampyre will be adding to the list as soon as he updates his own N97. When I reviewed the Nokia N97, I decided that with a decent firmware, it would be a rock solid hit. Hopefully, this firmware is the start of that.
While the Nokia N97 does feature UDP (User Data Preservation), we still recommend that you backup any critical information before you update your phone, just in case.
