Like the known Greek explorer Pytheas, this newly announced application from MojosMobile aims to help you explore the world. Pytheas, which is labeled as Coming Soon from the developers of Twittix and Easy Map, is a location-based application that uses Google’s Panoramio service to bring a photographic evidence of the world around you into your hands.
From the one screenshot that has been posted, we can assume that Pytheas will be available on Symbian 5th Edition devices. Upon launching it, the application should show you your GPS location on an OpenStreetMap with the top rated Google Panoramio photos layered on top of it, according to the location they were taken at. Clicking on one of the thumbnails should take you to a fullscreen view of the image.
I think that Pytheas could be the start of a solution to the lack of a proper Google Earth client on Symbian, and a great way to discover the world around you with someone else’s eyes. It’s also part of this new boom of applications that base their cool and wow factor on location services. On a witty note, I find it amusing that Pytheas uses Google images on top of a non-Google map.
What do you think of this new application? Is it something you would consider using and that might bring an added-value to your device, or not? And what added features would you love to see in it that aren’t mentioned in MojosMobile’s preview post?
