Thanks for the heads up! Now Amazon has two phones with no release dates waiting for me!

This has now days become very common thing with Nokia, they just announce phones but don’t release in time. Really frustrating !!!
Can you believe they haven’t released E52/55,5530XM,5630XM,5730XM in India yet?

Actually, there’s just an odd effect in play here.

Earlier this year there were some incidents where devices with pre-release software were reviewed and reported on. The top brass at Nokia didn’t take kindly to the is and issued an edict that no devices would be sent out for review until the final shipping software was installed. No exceptions.

Now while this doesn’t seem like a completely ridiculous idea, when you consider that Nokia employees regularly use devices in public that have “final” hardware, but pre-release software, mostly as a way for insiders to act as beta testers. Unfortunately, you often end up with early exposure of these unreleased products to press and analysts, and by extension to the public via technology blogs.

In the case of the E72, the device itself was being used by dozens, if not hundreds of Nokia employees early in September at the NokiaWorld conference. Hundreds of press saw widespread use of the device, and surmised that it wouldn’t be so widely distributed if it wasn’t VERY close to release. Apparently a wrong guess this time.

There was a similar situation with the N900, compounded by uncertainty of which carriers would sell the device.

I fully admit that I was among the ones trying to pry release dates out of my Nokia contacts, but at the end of the day, I guess I’d have to say that I’m happier with a device with fewer bugs than one that ships on schedule.

b.t.w. Amazon having a price and pre-order page means nothing. Nokia will ship it as soon as they can, and the price won’t be final until they actually get inventory to ship. My guess is that it will be less than listed now. After all, and unlocked E63 is going for $199, and an E71 is less than $250, so under $300 makes more sense.
