The Ovi Suite 2.0 Beta that’s been available through the Nokia Beta Labs has been a point of contention since it was first released. While most testers have found it to be quite nice, those of us who are comfortable with the extended capabilities of the vanilla PC Suite, which has had close to a decade of updates, offers. Regardless, the Nokia Beta Labs team has announced today that Ovi Suite 2.0 is out of beta, and will begin being included in the sales package for new devices shortly.
Ovi Suite v2.0.0.10 is the final version – if you have the beta installed, you should be prompted to update. If not, you can download the update directly here. The team is mum on any new features/bug fixes, unfortunately, but says they’re still working on the next updates. If you’re wondering, this is still a Windows-only application. OS X users will need to stick with Nokia Multimedia Transfer and iSync plugins, while Linux users are out of luck completely, at the moment.
Comments from users on the Beta Labs announcement claim that the application is still a resource hog, using 380MB of RAM in one instance. While I really like the concept and goals of the Ovi Suite 2.0, I personally will be sticking with PC Suite. It’s not completely lightweight, but it’s lighter than Ovi Suite, and it has tons of extras, including the Communication Center, which I use often. For the Ovi Suite to really take off and provide a positive user experience, they’re going to need to whittle that memory usage down quite a bit – as low as possible, in fact.
Which are you using – PC Suite or Ovi Suite? Why do you stick with that one?
