I have the Smarphoneware Best Profiles application. It’s excellent and provides functionality that probably should be there out of the box on my phone (nokia 5530). I use it only to switch profiles when charging which is very important for me as Nokias won’t vibrate (which is my default “ring”) while charging.

The Best Full Screen Message interests me a lot as I would love to have the ability to have my messages read aloud. Would be very useful in the car.

Anyway, I had a question about this sort of software. Does having this software activated drain battery life quicker? It doesn’t strictly seem to be “running” in the background, but surely it’s doing “something”, so wouldthat “something” affect battery life?

I believe that the Best Full Screen Message does not drain too much battery, you do have the option to make it read the messages out loud in which battery usage will increase.

That said I have Psiloc VoxTrack and Connect, Best Full Screen Message, Blacklist and Taskman and KeyLockClock running and I do notice quicker battery drain on my N97.

Following is what I get of memory usage in Best Taskman under the processes view:
FS Msg service (Best Full Screen Message) 30.52 kb
    ConnectDaemon 62.61 kb
Best BlackListD (Best Blacklist) 23.23 kb
    VoxTrack_Daemon.exe 66.11 kb
    VoxTrackWatchdog.exe 1.75 kb
    TaskMan (Best Taskman) 85.25 kb
    DRMCommonLicSrv.exe 54.98 kb

From this info it’s possible to say that both Best Blacklist and Full Screen Message are among those that uses less memory and hence assume that they also use less battery power.
(So responsible for my quicker battery drain seems to be products from Psiloc, which doesn’t suprise med due to their own DRM system)

Do note that I’ve excluded processes that are given, that is processes that should be running and are part of the phone OS. I’ve also closed contacts, messaging, calender and clock that shows up as running during boot of my N97.
I hope this information can shed some light on your question.
