Following the news about a sequel of Dirk Dagger, there weren’t too many N-gage games that wet my appetite or that I had heard of which seemed exciting.
However, while I have not been chasing for new games (as I haven’t finished the Nuclear Zeppelin yet), N-gage didn’t stop spitting out new games, many of which have been hugely delayed. It’s now 6 months since we mentioned the N-gage magazine in March that showed pictures of upcoming games for the platform. Apparently with Nokia, “upcoming” can be anytime between now, days or several months later (as the Nokia N97 v20 firmware has proven). The last few days though, N-gage has been like a Kinder chocolate egg bringing us three surprises at once in a short period of time.
First up is Mega Monsters which has a download size of 20 Mb and has an install file of 23 Mb, according to Symbianworld. In this game, you simply choose a monster-like character and cause havoc as much as you can to gain a high score. It also features a 2-player online mode. The price of the game is in the top range so be sure to check out the trial before you spend your money. I know I will.
Second up is Powerboat Challenge, a game that comes in at around 5 Mb in download size and priced at the bottom level. In this game, as the name suggests, you drive a powerboat and race against other opponents to reach the goal in the top 3 places. Despite it being labeled as a strategy game, I can clearly remember I played this game in an arcade hall.
Third up is a new golf game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, at a size of 7 Mb in download and a top up in price. Judging from the graphics it’s not the best one out there compared to Pro Series Golf that was priced at the same level when launched.
As a side-note it’s also worth mentioning that OVI Store finally have started to roll out N-gage game downloads and ZOMG it’s CJ have posted a detailed look with lots of screenshots. While it works in most cases for handsets compatible with N-gage, I had to explicitly search for the game titles to get it to show on my N97.
Unfortunately you can’t download any of these 3 games from the N-gage client as it seems to provide error messages. However you are able to download the games from the N-gage showroom which has them all available.
Of these 3 Kinder egg surprises, there is only one toy I want to play with and that is Mega Monsters. That is of course just my humble opinion, how about you?
