I uninstalled this within a day of buying it. The fix is awful (400M at minimum) and hijacks the GPS antennae. Just a real waste of time and 2.99 IMO

@Oliver
I'm glad to hear that a repair of your handset solved the problem.
However this is the 2nd time I'm sending my N97 off to repairs for the GPS problem.
Also a thread over at <a href="http://www.nokiausers.net/forum/nokia-n97/30174-possible-gps-fix-no-hacking-repair-needed.html rel="nofollow">Nokia Users</a> reveals an experience I've stumbled across myself.
When trying to calibrate the compass (usually by shaking the phone a bit), this have resulted in that the GPS gets corrupted.
Basically this means that the GPS is not tightly "fastened" enough on my handset.
Hence such an solution can prove to be useful.

@rosseirc
I've been thinking about that solution myself. (Still doesn't hide the fact that the N97 have many faults on the earlier bulks).

@thewinchester
Unfortunately a known problem I've encountered. Many applications shows up as free for my country whereas looking on the reviews, some says it costs money.
Quite confusing.

@Lloyd
@Vilius

From how the application works it was quite given that it had to connect to wireless networks to be able to pinpoint your location (+ using the other built in options). It therefore is no surprise that it asks for a wifi connection.
In theory it you should be able to use both a 3G connection along with a wifi connection. (Of course not 2 wifi or 3G connections simultanously).
Regarding the issue about accesspoints I understand what you mean as connecting to 3G "usually" disconnects you from wifi and vice versa. (In many cases this have happened to me on S60 3rd edition handsets)

I'll suggest that you contact the developers directly and give them a <a href="http://www.skyhookwireless.com/mapsbooster/feedback/" rel="nofollow">feedback</a> regarding your issues. (Do not take it via the OVI Store as this can be a very time consuming affair. Also why I've hesitated so far to purchase anything from there).

Application does not at all work as advertised on my N95! With Maps Booster enabled getting a fix takes forever (I mean maybe an hour or so!). Good thing it costs only 4.5 CHF here :(

Buyer Beware!

This does work as stated, but there is so much more that is not so good that they haven't told us about.

The tool is always on even if you aren't in Maps. How can you tell? Restart your phone and if you have "Always ask" set for internet connections you'll see that your phone is now asking to connect when you restart (I don't have any internet based apps on my N97 homescreen). All other applications run slower because this is always open even if they are not map or GPS related apps.

Tools like Maps don't load as fast because a conflict arises between being asked if you want to go online by Maps and which access provider to use by Maps Loader.

The speed with connecting to GPS is not worth all of the other issues. I have removed this app from my phone and all of the issues I mentioned are gone now.

i think that an app like that will soon dry out the battery. I have an extra bluetoot gps reciver in the car i got for about 20$. Gives my position within 8m and a battery of 20h. Of course when i don't have it with of i got problems with my n95 but i think that when google will release the voice turn to turn on their maps it will be the final app in the gps world at list for a while. What are they waiting for btw?
