gReader Goes Public, Giveaway Winners Announced

gReader, or the Google Reader client for Symbian by MojosMobile, has just been made available for all of you to enjoy and download. We’ve already given you an extensive preview of the application’s capabilities, as well as a detailed video walkthrough of one of the early beta versions. There’s nothing much we can add, other than we love the application, its UI and all of its functions, and we’re extremely excited to be finally able to share it with all of you.

You might recall that we also did a 10-license giveaway, even before the official launch. We received 36 comments in the official contest’s timeline and put those through a random number picker. Here is the result:

Great news. Maybe do you have one more license for addicted like me. :). I missed it.

Yay me! I really can’t wait. I promise reviews and critiques for all the rest of you! Take heart, guys, it seems Symbian is still getting a couple of promising apps here and there. I don’t know how long S60v3 will stay competitive, but it’s the only ship I can afford.

I tried the app and the interface was sleek and responsive. I do not use Google Reader so don’t know how that part of the app works, but for RSS feeds the content is well presented. The only thing I would like to see is that the article can be displayed within the app, if that’s possible.

  • mms

    Wow, I am so disappointed!
I’ve been looking forward to this app for so long, it is *great*, but it just kills my phone to use it: as soon as the sync with reader starts (via wifi), the entire phone locks up and I have to pull the battery out.
A real shame, because the interface is absolutely perfect.

Do the developers need data? I have about 60 tags and and 700 feeds, maybe that’s the problem. Is there some developer I could send an OPML file to try and repro the issue?
    I am using a Nokia E75.

  • mms

Oh, forgot to point out that if I do leave the app sync with reader for about an hour, less than 100 items are downloaded to the phone… that feels a bit slow too, I wonder what the problem is.

  • Juan

Same problems as mms in my E71, I have about 45 subscriptions the initial sync is a failure doesn´t download all items, leaving the sync option on kills the phone, also trying to refresh an individual subscription crashes the application.

For now will remain with the old good Resco News, hundred of times more reliable.

  • mms

@Juan… no, don’t despair… I’m just hoping the gurus will pass on the feedback and we can help sort out the issues, because if we get it to work, it’s a brilliant and much awaited app :)
    So let’s collect feedback here…

  • Juan

mms, received mail from Mojos, they are aware of the bugs, version 1.01 in a few days

  • mms

    @Juan: sweet :-)
We’ll continue this discussion after the upgrade then…

I downloaded the trial of greader on my e63, and I can't seem to open the contextual menu no matter what I do. Holding the center button does nothing. This means I can't access starring items, sharing items, etc.

  • Scot

Oddly I can't even make it work on my E63. And I can't find a forum or even an email for bug/reports. I'd really like to buy this app, but I won't unless I can make sure it works.

  • Scot

Got it working now on my E63. Somehow I couldn't access (or didn't see) the 'password' field in the settings, and without any error messages (hint) I didn't know that syncing was failing because it needed the password first.

Joey, try long-holding the center button, that brings up the context menu for me.

Again, I'm pretty frustrated that there seems no place to offer feedback, or see if the developers intend to keep up development on this app. I'd love to see the following:

    - the ability to select the browser for opening items in their original web contexts
    - the ability to see and select links within feeds
    - brief instructions on controls and settings

  • Smahomad

    Yep! same here!!

Just bought it Ovi store, and I keep getting 401 client errors.
I could find no place whatsoever to submit problem, find help, etc

so much talk, so little users…
