Windows 7 is now readily available, but not all companies have updated their applications to run properly in this new operating system, surprisingly. Unsurprisingly, Nokia is included in this group, as their Nokia Software Update tool refuses to work properly in Windows 7, under normal circumstances. This makes it quite difficult to update your device’s internal firmware, but fortunately there is a really easy work around to get NSU to work properly on Windows 7.
First, obviously, you’ll need to download the latest version of Nokia Software Update. If you already have Nokia PC Suite installed, then you can simply click the NSU icon there to initiate the download. Be sure you do NOT start the install process immediately, though. Instead, save the file ‘NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup_en.exe‘ to your computer somewhere, such as the desktop (you can delete it later).
Now, right click on the NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup_en.exe file and go down to Properties. You’ll see the box pictured below. Choose the ‘Compatibility’ tab, and select the ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’ box. Now choose ‘Windows Vista’ in the drop-down box, and then click ‘OK’ to close the window. Now, right-click the file again and this time, choose ‘Run as Administrator’, and proceed through the installation.
That’s it! Now you have NSU running properly in Windows 7, so you can enjoy your new operating system while Nokia gets its stuff in gear.
