New Windows Live Messenger Lands On Ovi Store For Touchscreen Phones

Windows Live MessengerOur friend Micky at NokiaUsers.net has found an updated Windows Live Messenger for S60 5th Edition-powered smartphones like the Nokia N97 and the upcoming X6. This new version is available for free on the Ovi Store, and can be easily installed to your memory card, to preserve space on the phone’s built-in storage. You can use this to log into your Windows Live account to chat with your friends, and even get a tab added to your Contacts application, so you can easily browse your buddy list.

Even better, the application seems to also add your Hotmail account to the phone’s built-in email application, so you can keep up with your email, which is definitely handy. Personally, I prefer to have a multi-protocol application such as Nimbuzz on my phone, but if you are heavy into Windows Live services, this could be a great option for you.

    just to note..the application seems region specific
    as i personally can get it….been getting “This item is not available for your country.

    You can be right in that as I remember trying using this on my earlier Symbian-powered handsets.

    What I noticed is that the version for e.g. Chinese phones, Norwegian phones and generic ones? differed in terms of functionalities as well.
    The one for Chinese phones had a news reader pulling down news from (obviously) Chinese websites, whereas this was not in the generic ones.
    More confusing is that the Norwegian version which was operator bundled of some sort lacked the built in integration with the email reader.

    As this was so confusing I decided to use first Palringo and now Nimbuzz instead.

    it doesn’t seem to install properly.. On my i8910 .. Dunno why!

    It won’t work on i8910….it works ONLY on Nokia devices, even with proper modification of the file.

    Too bad this was an application and not a plugin to contacts, much like Ovi Contacts is. It would have made a lot more sense that way.
