do you have black version which is available in Italy and Nokialand?

  • http://symbiannetwork.wordpress.com/ Steve Rowlands

Yes, I had the E52 for a couple of days, and was mighty impressed with it. Probably the best T9 keypad I have ever used, although the d-pad was a bit ‘stiff’.

Perfect for the travelling business person.

I wasn’t too sure on the slightly ill-fitting plastic bevel through. A metal one, like what was on the E51 would have been a better choice IMO.

  • Geeezeee

I’ve had the E-52 for about a month now and agree with Steve the d-pad is a little stiff. For example I frequently find myself hitting ‘enter’ when I’m actually just trying to scroll right. The plastic bevel is also a little cheap looking and not really in keeping with the standard set by the E51/E71.

I do find it amazing how much ‘tech’ can be crammed into such a small and light device, although it’s a great shame that Internet Radio and the Podcasting App aren’t included in the firmware. My other gripe is that on my E71, I would get a chime and envelope symbol notifying me of new emails across multiple accounts, even if they weren’t present on the phone’s idle screen, but on the E52, you only receive notifications on the two email accounts that you’re able to have on your homescreen. The camera lacks autofocus but it’s ok. Battery is fantastic.

Not quite as good a phone as I’d hoped, and not really much of a step up from the E71 in terms of features, but a great device nevertheless. One slight issue with mine is the ‘light leak’ present underneath the home button, where 2 LEDs seem slightly misaligned with the keypad – possibly a build quality problem?!?

Have been reading about quite a few software bugs on Nokia’s forums. Can you comment on whether you encounter any issues? Also, how is the removal of Podcasting affect your usage of the device? Any word on when they will bother to bring out the NAM version? :P

  • Christian

I had a e52 three months ago and after all I was very impressed by the foto quality and the housing. But two things are very bad: no podcasting application included and taken videos are very laggy. As I said it this was three months ago and I dont know if nokia has released an update in the meantime for that device.

There won’t be a nam version of the e52. I’m not sure why, but they seem to release the e51 and e52 with only 850/2100 wcdma. there is only the e52-1 and e52-2. I’d wish they’d just make everything standardized like the n86 and give us triband 3g 850/1900/2100 it’d make everyone happy.

Rita, would you mind, in the software part, review the integrated backup tool in detail (is it improved, can you choose what to backup as in S60v5) as well as the email client (both the legacy S60 mail client and Nokia Messaging) ?

Nokia E52-2 just got passed a couple of days ago by FCC.

I found Escarpod (which is in alpha) works.

  • Geeezeee

Yes, Escarpod is a workaround for the lack of the Podcasting app, and seems to work quite well. Another alternative is AudioBay, although the interface isn’t quite as slick. The ommission of Internet Radio can be resolved by installing the version for the Nokia 6210 Navigator, which works perfectly.

The firmware was updated last week and there are no noticeable differences for me, certainly not in terms of new apps or functionality, so I guess the changes must be under the skin (and they must have been quite extensive as it was a 130Mb download from NSU).

@Geeezeee I read somewhere that the most recent firmware update fixed the noise cancellation problems that had been affecting a lot of owners.

  • MIS

    Hey Rita,

Please test the noise cancellation issue for us, I have several concerns:

1- It is reported that in noisy environments the other end can’t hear what your saying unless you put the mic very close to your mouth and shout.

2- Is this a hardware feature in the mic or is it a software feature? And if software, do you have the option to turn it off like in the E72?

3- If the problem doesn’t exist, can you confirm if you have the latest firmware? Someone up there said they fixed this issue with the firmware update.
