Nokia Releases New Firmware For E71, E66, and E63

Obviously overwhelmed with the Christmas spirit of giving, Nokia has released new firmware for the previously forgotten Nokia E66, E71, and E63 Eseries smartphones. Interestingly enough, the same firmware, v400.21.013, is available for all three models through Nokia’s Software Update tool.

The update brings a massive changelog, which you can view in its entirety at AllAboutSymbian. Highlights include tons of stability improvements and bugfixes, as well as the inclusion of Ovi Files, Ovi Contacts, Ovi Store, and the Ovi Messaging IM client, which lets you connect to Gtalk, Ovi Contacts, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger. Nokia Messaging has also be integrated, with updates to the email setup wizard and other improvements.

You can download Nokia’s Software Update tool here, but keep in mind it’s Windows-only, so you Mac and Linux users are left out this time around. Also, none of the phones have UDP (User Data Preservation), which means you’ll need to backup your critical information, as it will all be erased when you perform the firmware update. Files on your memory card will be safe, though.

  • Let's hope these don't get pulled inexplicably within hours like the E71 v300 release.
  • Obviuosly they are vanilla releases, it's taken nearly 2 years for some operators in the UK to release v300 *hutch/three uk*

    Ricky, the second you get this download can you let us know if it is FP2? and finally granting over the air updates
  • No it's FP1, nokia never releases an update which is a different firmware from the on you started with.

    really I that stinks, oh well, I imagine after I wear out the E63 in like 2-3 years I'll probably get a N900 or something akin to it then...but thanks for the info

    also to note, my update has not trickled in yet...which is partly good since I don't have access to a Windows based machine for a while

    You might mean the E51 instead of the E63. I don't think the E63 will ever get another update.

    Looks like my E71-2 NAM is getting shafted from updates again. I'm still running v200.21.118 Nokia. Why won't you let me update!?

    I don't think it includes Files on Ovi in this firmware. I do not see it anywhere......unless of coarse it does not do it in ROM (just like Ovi Contacts) as I always factory default after loading new firmware to get rid of any extra stuff it puts on.

    HELP I update my E-71 2 and when I restore content bang it crash connection lost and need to restart and my apps I buy are lost ahhhhhh and I try to reinstall at ovi store and say installation failed please what can I do I dont want to loose everything of my content and apps I want to cryyyyy !!!

    Got my APAC Indian E71-2 updated. No sign of any of the OVI apps. Where should I be looking for them?

    Simply Change the product code to 0559585

    Its for those who want EURO1 Generic Update, that means if you have vodafone e71 then it will make it to Generic nokia e71 and remove the vodafone things.

    0569371 is updateable now. I did it yesterday, and everything is working great! I only restored contacts/notes/mail and not programs or settings, but so far, I am very happy with the new firmware. Both Tetris and Tiger Woods Golf were there, as was a new Facebook app. Oddly Nokia Download was still there and had to be upgraded to Ovi Store, and the QuickOffice also needed an upgrade, but it was still free.

    I have heard of problems with trying to use MfE on firmware where Nokia Messaging is integrated, especially when using Google Sync. Anyone aware if these issues exist on this firmware?

  • FYI glad I finally updated my firmware 400.21.xxx runs so much smoother than before, seems the phone memory is more to or something
