This morning, Nokia came clean about a few of its phone chargers, letting consumers know that certain models are prone to coming apart, exposing the wiring and possibly giving the user a bit of a shock (literally). Nokia is quite proud that they discovered this in a routine quality control check, and setup the exchange program *before* any consumer incidents were reported, which is indeed a good thing.
The recall only affects specific chargers manufactured by BYD in China. If you have the AC-3E or AC-3U chargers and bought it (or the phone it came with) between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009, or the AC-4U model, purchased between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009, then you’re included in this, and you can get a free replacement from Nokia. You can use the photos below to verify if your charger is affected.
If you have one of these defective chargers, you can head over to http://chargerexchange.nokia.com to enter in some details to verify, and then get information on how to return the defective charger to Nokia and have a free replacement shipped out to you.
