@Sawyer,
I actually looked over right now a few definitions of Easter Eggs, and none of them, in Software or Computers, obviously states that it can't have a function or improve the usability. In any case, you can take the meaning literally, not as software related, but as in "suprise", or "kinder eggs" ;)
I would love it though if we didn't dwell on the actual term to use, and you actually gave us some examples of "surprise" software that you miss in recent S60 devices :D

Hi,

Your use of the term 'easter eggs' in the article is misleading. In computing, or softwares, easter eggs are often defined as hidden messages (often in form of jokes) that do not provide any practical function or usability to the user. Easter eggs are commonly found in computer games, although they're often added to some serious applications as well.

Everything mentioned in your article provides usability features, which means they're not easter eggs.

Nokia Internet radio can be installed on the Nokia E52/E55. I think it is the Nokia 6210 version.

Escarpod (which is in alpha) seems to work for podcasts.

I a sure Quickoffice, Adobe and Zip will always be in Nokia E Series.

Thank God for the E71, which has everything mentioned as missing (except Snake). If this is the direction Nokia is going, I might think again about the E72.

I can tell you that from a retail prospective, there is a very big difference between having these applications preloaded, and having them "easily available." Every day I explain to customers the benefit of Symbian devices being platforms, which are infinitely expandable by way installing new applications. If a device doesn't have a specific built-in feature or compatibility, chances are it can be added rather easily if you know where to look. The problem is, not everyone knows were to look on their own. If I had my way, I would spend at least a half hour with every smart phone customer, showing them not just how the basic features work, but also how to get the most out of their new device by expanding its functionality. However many people either don't want to spend an extra hour learning about features they think they won't use, or they expect a high-end device to be simple enough that they will not need assistance. Worst of all, if you're buying a phone online or from a store where the employees don't know their products, (or don't care) there may be no resource for you to ask questions. There are millions of devoted Symbian power users out there who can pick up practically any S60 3rd Edition or 5th Edition device and get going without any outside help. But there are also just as many new users who may not figure out half of what their new 5800 or N97 is capable of simply by reading the manual or visiting Nokia's web site. When you don't build in at least a trial version of certain applications, people assume that they simply aren't available.
