    N97 v2.1 is coming soon.

but no news on the 5800?

I've given up expecting a nice firmware update for that phone. I was excited with rumours of possible kinetic scrolling and a homescreen like the N97 and N97 mini. Though I've given up hope for such firmware updates, I think if any updates are going to come out it's just going to be bug related.

Feel free to correct me and get my hopes up again. The roller-coaster ride that is Nokia.

Looks like NAM N85 is not getting this update yet, attempts to download end with message “No download available.” Download server was Nokia.

  • jamaalism

I hope the N86 gets a good firmware update too… it can use a few good tweaks…

  • payaxy

oh, update for my 5800, where art thou… ?

v40 for 5800 is coming too. I wouldn't count for wrt homescreen widgets like N97 has though. More like other XM phones maybe.

Best of all, now Nokia Ovi Suite support software updates. First it told that new firmware exists, then it recommended taking backup (which I took) and then updated firmware to device. Best thing was, that Nokia Ovi Suite had already downloaded firmware to my PC, saving lots of waiting time.

    automatic switching to QWERTY

  • payaxy

automatic switching to QWERTY based on phone position portrait or landscape would be enough for me :)

There was a small bugfix update a couple of weeks ago for the 5800xm for us unbranded users (31.0.101), but it’s only bugfixes & speed improvements – no new home screen or kinetic scrolling.

Dear god…how long do I have to wait for the 5530 update to reach America? My tech OCD is driving me insane….

  • NewGuy_1

Nokia 6710 Navigator also got a firmware update. Pity it messes with Ovi Maps 3 though, the program crashes when one tries to access Tools.Settings.Navigation. It's a really pity because this update has really improved the general workings of the phone.

  • http://krisq.openid.pl/ krisq

Try to delete maps via map loader and download them again. New version of OVI maps = new version of maps in repository.

  • NewGuy_1

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Um, not sure if this counts as a firmware update but I just updated my N97 to v20.0.027. If you *#0000#ed it. you wouldn't get notifications of new updates. But if you used the Applications>SW Update, it would say that there's a phone update. Also Ovi Suite told me there's an update!!

  • benmcconnell

Looks like the NAM N85 will update via the Nokia Updater but not via the phone link.

  • daClaus

20.0.027 is just a localized version of 20.0.019 for the Middle East and North Africa that supports english, arab and farsi. No new/ other features.

  • http://waja3ras.blogspot.com/ Tarek

Oh!! Okay, I see!! Ovi Suite claimed “performance improvements!!” LIARS!! :)

    Thanks for the clarification!

  • phoneguy

The plural of “firmware” is “firmware.” Same thing with software, malware, hardware, etc.

It's kind of nice to have a Samsung Symbian phone. I know that the manufacturer of my phone doesn't care about putting out updates in a timely manner. When I was using Nokias, it was such a crap shoot :)
